Beginning in the winter/spring of 2023, there have been some changes in the availability of Apple and Dell products and repair services from DIT.
Personal Purchases
- Terrapin Tech no longer offers Dell products for sale. A new UMD-tailored Dell online store is available at www.dell.com/UMD.
- Terrapin Tech no longer offers Apple products for sale. You can find Apple retail locations by visiting Apple’s Find a Store page.
Warranty Repairs for Personal Devices
- Terrapin Tech no longer provides warranty hardware repairs for Apple devices. Visit this support article for information on getting support from Apple: Contacting Apple for Hardware Support.
- Terrapin Tech no longer provides warranty hardware repairs for personal Dell devices. Visit this support article for information on getting support from Dell: Contacting Dell for Hardware Support.
- You can also find authorized repair shops nearby that can provide hardware support services for Apple and Dell devices. One example is Best Buy, located at 4710 Cherry Hill Road, College Park, MD 20740.
Institutional Purchases
- Terrapin Tech no longer offers Apple or Dell products for sale to campus units.
- The strongly preferred method of purchasing Apple or Dell products will be from CDW in Shell Shop. Learn more about Shell Shop.
Repair Services for Institutional Devices
Terrapin Tech continues to provide repair services for institutionally owned Dell and Apple devices. All repairs will incur a $100 diagnostic fee to support the availability of the service on campus. If the device is covered by the company warranty, there will be no additional fee. If the device is out of warranty, the unit will need to cover the cost of any parts required for the repair. Units may also work with Apple or Dell directly for institutional repairs.

For customers with personal or university-owned Windows, Apple, and UNIX devices, Terrapin Tech’s expert technicians will continue to provide support for popular operating systems and software, help with Wi-fi access and passphrase resets, and assist with a wide range of university academic and administrative applications.
Terrapin Tech is located at 0398 Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center (easily accessible from both ESJ’s Campus Drive entrance across from Hornbake Plaza and ESJ’s ground floor McKeldin Mall entrance).
